Eve describes her process as follows:
“Before starting a piece, I like to meditate about the concept and do any necessary research. Next, I brainstorm, using my left (non-dominant) hand to write down ideas. This helps me access my right brain/subconscious and leads to richer interpretations of the concept and creative, unexpected ways to express them. For more information about this technique, please read the excellent book Visioning: Ten Steps to Designing the Life of Your Dreams by Luccia Capacchione.
“Although I paint from my own photographs, few of my paintings look like any single picture. Usually I extract elements from multiple photos and arrange them to get the desired effect. After sketching the composition onto the canvas with chalk, I rough in the elements using paint colors that are complements to the destination colors. Once shapes and proportions are nailed down, I'll start using the final colors. I work quickly, using a lot of wet on wet to mix colors on the canvas, and prefer brushes that are a bit oversized for the subject.
“If I find myself struggling with the painting, it is usually because I am working too tightly. My favorite technique to loosen up is to switch to using my left hand. The lack of coordination and better connection to my right brain usually bring a more instinctive, spontaneous look to the piece.”
